The chassis code is on your vehicle registration document. It alone determines compatibility: two vehicles of the same model may not take the same parts depending on their year and phase.

Controls worthy of a flagship sedan
In the 7 Series, the driver's area concentrates a density of functions far beyond a compact sedan: chassis management, multi-directional seat adjustments, rear window shade, independent rear passenger controls, comfort access. All switches whose proper operation directly determines the level of refinement felt inside the cabin. When a button ages or starts to fail, the entire perception of the car suffers.
Restoring these parts with the correct references means bringing the cabin back up to the standard this sedan demands, whether for a careful restoration or a comfort feature retrofit.
Identifying your controls by 7 Series generation
The BMW 7 Series buttons and controls catalog available here covers four distinct generations: the E32 and E38, two classics whose controls have their own architecture; the F01, which alone accounts for 5 of the 8 available references; and the F02 long-wheelbase version of the same platform. The F01 and F02 share important similarities, but uncertainty can remain on certain modules specific to the wheelbase, so the chassis code on your vehicle registration remains the only reliable reference.
For the E32 and E38 generations, keep in mind that availability is more limited and each available switch corresponds to a specific function on those models.
Do the rear seat controls from the F01 work on the long-wheelbase F02?
In most cases, the comfort control modules shared between the F01 and F02 are identical, as both versions are built on the same technical platform. However, certain functions specific to the F02's long wheelbase, such as seat extensions or folding tables, may use switches specific to that version. If in doubt, the vehicle's full VIN remains the only reliable reference to avoid a part number error.
